The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, which is the best section of the book, is also incredibly long for the little that happens in the story. His book does accidentally say something glorious about Americans. A band of soldiers are killed in battle, and before they go off to wherever it is they go, they show up one last time. It is also quite funny. This is mostly Irving’s travelogue from a trip to England. I bought this book after I have seen the movie of Sleepy Hollow almost a thousand times, I absolutely love the movie and I really wanted to have the book.
The Pride of the Village Oh dear. People were interested in reading and thinking to an extraordinary degree.
Some say that Tom grew a little crack-brained in his old days, and that, fancying his end approaching, he had his horse new shod, saddled, and bridled, and buried with his feet uppermost; because he supposed that at the last day the world would be turned upside-down; in which case he should find his horse standing ready for mounting, and he was determined at the worst to give his old friend a run for it.
This was definitely not a story that captured my attention, imagination, or fancy. Their fights were known to send a bachelor hurrying “on his way, rejoicing I also thought the piece on the mutability of literature managed to avoid tedium by taking the form of a conversation with a talking book.
I felt like I was reading a story that no other purpose than to scare me into being good. Irving’s historical works include a five volume biography of George Washington after whom he was named as well as biographies of Oliver Goldsmith, Muhammad, and several histories of 15th-century Spain dealing with subjects such as Christopher Columbus, the Moors, and the Alhambra.
The rest of the book takes the form of a travel journal, containing a few other disjointed musings.

This book aside, I would wholeheartedly recommend visiting Sunnyside or Philisburg if you have the chance though do note by bias ; the staff is very passionate and would probably have good arguments to refute my criticisms. I …more Sleepy Hollow is the first tale of 13 in my book, but it is only 24 pages long. There is a reason they are not as popular as his New York ghost stories. I soldadk the dialogue, and the descriptions of Ichabod and his horse were hilarious.
This is especially true of his stories that take place in England, and most do. I can’t help but wonder if our narrator was feeling nostalgic for simpler times in the s, how vastly have things changed nearly years later?
