What Percival Everett’s ‘Erasure’ Can Tell Us about Authenticity

To make matters worse, Ellison experiences pericval angst, as another book called We’s Lives In Da Ghetto by Juanita Mae Jenkins is becoming a national best seller and critical darling. Prcival he writes an astoundingly awful, racist book—a parody of popular ghetto fiction.
The colors all mean something, though I cannot say what, would not say if I could. What follows is a series of events that ask: I just finished reading this funny and smart book a few days ago. In the world that I grew up, books — at least certain books — were seen as something dangerous, something to be wary of and keep at a distance if possible. One could argue that writing is writing — it’s all communication — whether it’s scratches on a cave wall, glyphs in stone, ink on papyrus, pencil on paper, typed characters perciavl bond stationery, or digits in the ether.

Well, it took me forty erasers, but I did it. I could see how everything in the novel and the meta-novel was selected to show the contrast between Monk and his fictional character’s viewpoint of the world.
