This is an inherent problem with trying to learn a language in real-world source material before you have a grounding in it. If you’re a complete beginner, I would save this book for later. If you’re looking for a nice review of Japanese, this book can be kind of fun. And if you’re into online learning as well, WaniKani and Duolingo are also great resources. No trivia or quizzes yet. It looks like JiM is arranged in manvaland traditional textbook style, where each lesson contains some grammar and some vocab mixed together to teach you a certain concept; for instance, apparently there’s a chapter about days of the week, days of the month, and months.

Maybe it would have, except for the next problem: This book is amazing! The 30 lessons that make up the book include drills, and a small glossary of basic “kanji” is appended as an added bonus. I like how this book is made.

This is a fun book, although I would think near useless for a true beginner. Use furigana if you think they won’t understand your kanji usage.
